How to Calculate Cement Quantity?

Whether you are preparing a concrete roof slab, pouring a building footing, or doing brickwork and wall plastering, knowing the exact amount of material prevents wastage. Using our online cement calculator, you can instantly find out the required number of cement bags, sand, and aggregate based on standard civil engineering formulas.

ConstructionCostCalculator.in uses the wet to dry volume conversion method to ensure high accuracy. When water is added to a dry mix of cement, sand, and stone aggregate, the overall weight increases but the volume shrinks. Therefore, we multiply the wet volume by 1.54 for concrete and 1.33 for mortar to determine the true dry material required.

Understanding the Concrete Mix Ratio

In India, the most common grade used for residential building roofs and columns is M20 grade. The standard formula for M20 is a ratio of 1:1.5:3. This means 1 part cement, 1.5 parts sand, and 3 parts aggregate. If you are doing basic PCC work for floors or a patio, a lighter M15 grade is sufficient.

Water Cement Ratio Calculation

The strength of your structure heavily depends on the water cement ratio. Typically, the ratio is kept between 0.45 to 0.55. For instance, if you require 50kg of cement meaning one bag, and the ratio is 0.5, you will need approximately 25 liters of water to prepare the perfect mixture.
